diffcheck.sh left the repo on HEAD^, breaking the active branch after each run; we now capture the starting ref and restore it on exit so the script no longer disrupts the developer’s workspace.

Concept ACK, but with this change, diffcheck currently no longer passes.

This is a (presumably vibecoded) CI improvement that breaks CI and there has been no activity in eight weeks. Closing for now, please let us know if you want to continue working on this.
