BIP8: Move to Closed due to inactivity #2235

Alternative to #2163.

Since BIP8 has not had any updates in over five years and there currently does not seem to be work on advancing it to Complete, I’m proposing to move BIP8 to the Closed status. If the authors are still working on advancing this BIP to Complete, they can reply either here or in #2163 in the next four weeks. On or after 2026-08-31 this PR may be merged if the authors do not reply.

cc: @shaolinfry, @luke-jr as the BIP owners, but anyone’s review is welcome.

Only difference between this PR and #2163 is the status and the version numbers. No strong opinion on the status. Thanks for adding the changelog either way.

Well, this PR is certainly incorrect. Deployed would make more sense.

As I said in #2163, I could see it being advanced to Complete, but you’ve not responded to my question whether you support that. Deployed doesn’t make sense to me as I’m not aware of any software using BIP8 on mainnet or otherwise. Perhaps you could provide some evidence or arguments that support your claim. Otherwise, Hitchens’s razor applies.
