Show calculated vs total blocks #129

Bitcoin newbies like myself are wondering why we can't do transactions. From the literature, I think it's because Bitcoin is still calculating some thousand hashes. But I'm not sure.

If the Bitcoin client displayed x / total blocks, using http://blockexplorer.com/q/getblockcount to retrieve the total blocks, then it will be more clear to users that progress is being made.

Are you talking about the delay the first time you run Bitcoin? If so, then I agree - there should be some kind of indication that the program is still downloading the block chain.
