Providing this .service file might be used as a guide by packagers and helps lowering the bar.

Nice! This solves [at least part of] #4124.

Please also add a file to doc/ that describes how to set up bitcoind as a service (so how to install this service file).

Automatic sanity-testing: PASSED, see http://jenkins.bluematt.me/pull-tester/p4577_0c3e1019665edb6c456f9640307231863db2835f/ for binaries and test log. This test script verifies pulls every time they are updated. It, however, dies sometimes and fails to test properly.
