Qt: Clarify sign/verify dialog text to specifically state that these messages only prove one receives with the address in question, and makes no claim to sender of transactions

This misunderstanding seems to becoming increasingly common.

You can sign messages/contracts with your addresses to prove you receive bitcoins sent to them.

I think it might read a bit better as something like

You can sign messages/contracts with your addresses to prove you own Bitcoin received by them.

Not quite sure that goes far enough though, it's a difficult concept to convert in a few sentences.

"Contracts" may be confusing without further elaboration. Also, maybe say "you can receive bitcoins sent to them" ?

@BitcoinPullTesterHuman It doesn't prove you own bitcoins received by them - you may have spent the bitcoins since receiving them. And no, spending them doesn't imply the output is "spent" on the blockchain. This kind of confusion is exactly what I'm trying to address here. ;) @sipa Maybe "messages/agreements" then? Changes made.

@luke-jr It's extremely hard to word that sort of thing properly, a lot of the terms used when referring to addresses and transactions are ambiguous, or have different meanings to developers and users. I read the phrase "bitcoins sent to them" as making it sound like there's a "bitcoin" which can move from address to address. I don't think it helps much, but I was attempting to use "bitcoin" as portion/plural rather than "bitcoins" which to me implies a number of individual units.

In hindsight it's probably a worthless distinction, there's misinformation in a lot more prominent places than this.
