There should be a field that shows an unused, unlabled, address that can be pasted places on the overview page

The preferred workflow is that you create a new receiving address for everyone that wants to send you coins. One big advantage of this is that the address is immediately labeled with the senders name, or whatever you want to call it.

A changing, unlabeled address on the overview page does not serve this purpose and would be confusing. We decided to remove the old "default receiving address" exactly because it confused users.

I found it useful for quick pasting into places for small amounts of bitcoin.

Perhaps the client should nag you to label addresses once they have coin in.

I don't like the idea of this request.

Me neither. Another way to scratch this itch without bringing back the dreaded default address would be the possibility to "pin" frequently used [both receiving and sending] addresses to the home page.

But that would encourage people to over use an address, when they should be single use

Only if they want to be "anonymous". For labeling purposes it's fine to use the same address for the same person multiple times. Or to give the same address to multiple people.

But maybe we should not encourage this. In that case let's just close this issue.

("pin" frequently used [both receiving and sending] addresses to the home page.)

    I agree with it.

address over-use should not be encouraged
