Bitcoin 0.5.0, 0.5.1 and 0.5.2 fail to startup Win7 x64 #783

   New install - no existing wallet…

   I have tried all of them, it fails to start at all. All have the same issue. It shows the splash screen, says ‘Loading addresses…’. I let it go for 24 hours, no change. I click on the splash screen, I get a message saying bitcoin-qt.exe is not responding. I select ‘close the program’ and it does not close. I delete the .lock file, try to start it again, and i get a bluescreen with CACHE_MANAGER on the top.

   I reboot, delete all the files in the appdata\bitcoin, the process starts over again. splash screen, loading addresses, nothing else.

   The log file only has these four lines: Bitcoin version 0.5.2-beta Default data directory C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin Loading addresses… dbenv.open strLogDir=C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin/database strErrorFile=C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin/db.log

   db.log is empty zero byte file.

   No, what seemed to fix it was installing all of the optional Windows patches from Windows Update.
