Python 3.x is now the default python formula in homebrew. https://brew.sh/2018/01/19/homebrew-1.5.0/ has some more info.

Hmm, so this will break with older versions of brew? Considering that they "will maintain python2, python3 and python@3 aliases", I am slightly -0 on this.

Isn't brew self-updating? From my experience, the number of people using old versions of stuff on MacOSX is really low.
But yes, there's no hurry to do this if they maintain the
