    Version 0.19.1 compiles fine. Configured with debugging enabled on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS

    When running with gdb:-

    hmm looks like it enabled sha-ni even though your cpu doesn't support it. Could you please paste the following:

    1. all the commands you ran to compile the code.
    2. cat /proc/cpuinfo
    3. gcc -march=native -dM -E - </dev/null

    @rebroad Sorry, I don't have CPU hardware background. You could bisect to find out when it was introduced.

    Can you post the initial lines of debug.log? In particular lines like "Using the 'shani(1way,2way)' SHA256 implementation" or similar things mentioning SHA256.

    EDIT: nevermind, this is in a global constructor, before main() runs.

    I'm very confused here, because:

    • It's crashing in an SSE2 instruction, which your CPU supports
    • It's running the SHA-NI based SHA256 implementation, which shouldn't even be tried on a system that doesn't support SSE4 (like yours).
