As 0.8.0 is probably not going to be ready anytime soon, maybe this warrants a 0.7.1?

I could do a 0.7.1 if wanted, but I haven't branched 0.7.x yet so let me know...

I think it's worth doing a 0.7.1 after merging this.
AFAIK there have been no major or risky changes since the 0.7.0 release, so it could simply be spun off from master.
But it's @gavinandresen his call...

When we decide to do a 0.7.1 or similar, I vote for a small RC phase or at least I need an official Gitian installation package to test the new installer sets the key correctly and there is no escaping-stuff missing for
"%1", before we release a new version. -

ACK on this pull.
RE: I'd like the goal for 0.7.1 to be this fix and much more robust recovery of a corrupt blkindex.dat/wallet.dat.
I've been working on the wallet.dat problem (randomly corrupting wallets and then making sure as much of the wallet as possible is automatically recovered), the -reindex pull seems like it should be the basis for fixing the blkindex.dat problems we see (IF cannot load blkindex.dat: delete it, and automatically run -reindex on the blk000?.dat files to recreate it).
