I'd like to see some big warning sign "This is a pre-release test build - use at your own risk - do not use for mining or merchant applications" that is either always visible or at least shown at startup, enabled via a macro that cna be set in clientversion.h.

This could be used for daily builds, pulltester builds, and any builds before release candidate (or even releases) are made.

Agreed this is a good idea; but what should it do for bitcoind (no GUI)? Maybe disable GBT (and getwork) unless fTestnet?

I think it should be showed only for non-testnet use. If you want to run the alpha on testnet, what could happen?

Agree with @xanatos; i'm also not sure whether it should actually disable features - people will always find ways to do stupid things anyway

For bitcoind we could make it preface the error field in getinfo.

Indeed, let's add some big scary warning bar.

If I don't want to see the warning msg after build, what should I do? in the config or make flags? Can you explain me about it?

  14. meshcollider commented at 6:42 AM on November 9, 2018: contributor

@chungin why would you not want to disable it? Just ignore it if you understand the risks, it doesn't change any functionality

  15. whale-guru-dev commented at 6:48 AM on November 9, 2018: none

What is the risk if i am using it? Meaning risk in the building process or what do you mean? Can you tell me how to remove it after build qt wallets?

  16. sipa commented at 7:04 AM on November 9, 2018: member

The warning is there because you're running code that hasn't fully gone through our review and test process yet. The risk is anything - it could lose your coins even though that is unlikely.

If you don't want the warning, build release code instead of a development branch.

I have built master branch. Is that development branch?

  18. meshcollider commented at 9:16 AM on November 9, 2018: contributor

@chungin yes, until something is tagged for release it is not considered a "release"

    Okay, Thank you.
