I think the documentation is incorrect since #22514. See #22514 (review).

Andrew is right. The documentation is not incorrect. #22514 was still a (very minor) API break, but i don't think there is anything to do here. Closing the issue.

To everyone involved: apologies, i wouldn't have wasted your time have i reproduced the issue before reporting it, as i would have realised the API break wasn't related to the documentation.
