The removed options have been already defined in the config.site file after building depends with DEBUG=1 CC=gcc-8 CXX=g++-8.

Also I see no possible errors which could be caught by providing those options.

Oh, right. DEBUG=1 from depends does not transit into --enable-debug during configuration.
