Guix 1.4.0 has been out for nearly 1 year. Our current docs (contrib/guix/INSTALL.md) mostly describe installing 1.3.0, and it's related dependencies. Updating the guide for 1.4.0 could simplify many things. i.e rather than discussing Guile 3.0 vs 2.0, and installation instructions/build complication for either version, we can settle on just 3.0. I have done a from-source build of Guix, on Ubuntu Jammy, using distro packaged deps, and everything seems to be working as expected.

Seems fine to require guix 1.4 when building from source (anyone can still use the old docs to compile 1.3 if they really want to).
Though, it would be good to keep guix 1.3 compatibility for https://packages.ubuntu.com/jammy/guix for now?

I don't think updating the Guix install docs we ship means changing the minimum required Guix. We can ship more-straightforward, easier to use instructions, for installing a newer Guix version, and continue to support Guix 1.3.x.
