Please describe the feature you’d like to see added.

    Provide 32 bits Windows builds

I received 0.8 Bitcoin on a wallet.dat but in real life, I’m broke. I just paid the electricity and bought lentils with the last money I had.

    Describe the solution you’d like

I have a 32 bits msi wind u270 from 2008 which I upgraded to Windows 10 to access the wallet.dat

    Describe any alternatives you’ve considered

No android wallets seems to allow importing wallet.dat files

    Please leave any additional context

    No response

The 32-bit Windows builds were removed in 2019, which is now a few years ago. Since then, I think you are the second person to ask for the Windows 32-bit build to be added back. Given such a low demand and given that Windows 10 will start to go EOL next year, I don’t think there is any value in the effort of trying to add the build back in. (In fact, testing could only be done manually on a Windows 32-bit machine, which again had no interest from anyone volunteering to do, given the nonexistent/low demand).

In theory, if you really want a 32-bit build, you could install a 32-bit Linux distro and compile locally on your system (or cross-compile remotely), but I don’t know if a Linux distro exists that still offers 32-bit system installs. Most Linux distros dropped 32-bit system installs years ago.

Obviously anyone is free to play with the last Bitcoin Core release that still had 32-bit builds (https://bitcoincore.org/bin/bitcoin-core-0.17.0/) for testing only in a trusted local network or offline at their own risk. Though, using it for anything real, or connecting it to the public internet wouldn’t be recommended, due to it being stale software with unfixed bugs.

@maflcko except bitcoin 0.17 can’t read the wallet.dat file I created with a more recent version of Bitcoin back when I had working 64 bits computer.

An alternative would be to support 32 bits builds until an import solution come for android apps.

I created with a more recent version of Bitcoin back when I had working 64 bits computer.

In theory, one could try to revive a i686-w64-mingw32 cross-build, but the effort to get the build working and then subsequently test that the build worked feels way more expensive and non-trivial for a one-off workaround than just going with a machine for which builds are provided.

Installing a 32-bit system Linux and compiling yourself should be easier, but I haven’t tried it.

Installing a 32-bit system Linux and compiling yourself should be easier, but I haven’t tried it.

FWIW, a year or two ago i compiled bitcoin core on a 2009 32-bit Acer Aspire One running Debian linux. It could sync the chain though it obviously took weeks.

This was just an experiment of course. x86 32-bit is a dead platform, it makes no sense to bring it back as a release build.

Potentially you could build it yourself on Windows using MSVC-no idea, i don’t think anyone ever tried, let alone with the new build system.

This is basically an individual help request for a one-time action. i’d suggest finding some 64-bit machine (even the crappiest one should do), or finding a friend that has one and that can be trusted to send on the coins.
