I would strongly suggest we back out of the PRs widening the op_return size. 20% of the network has switched to an alternative implementation just to avoid likely consequences here of having an vulnerable surface area where malicious actors can put files with illegal contents.

Nit: Should this not be 14+ now ? Given https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/33489

That change isn’t in the 30.x branch.

    • code review ✅
    • checked release notes, they are the same except some grammar (line 184), style changes (" => ` etc) and removal of unused chapters / sections. ✅
    • cannot generate list of authors, I must be doing something wrong with the script.

I ran a full -reindex with v30.0 (d5e0077bef4cc4484242bb9a88a4840bc803c091) until current tip (height=918366) with default dbcache (=450 MB) and fully enabled script validation (-assumevalid=0): it finished successfully in 11 hours, 22 minutes.
