   The instructions as they are will invariably cause users to install macports over homebrew since they are mentioned in the instructions first. Because homebrew is mentioned as used for other parts of the release process, it seems to make sense that this is preferred over macports if a bare minimum is to be installed. Therefore, I have moved it to earlier in the instructions to reduce the risk of people needing to install both.

   Not sure about this. Why prefer the one over the other? And if there is a clear preference, please put it in words instead of assuming people will make a decision based on the order of sections.

   We’ve decided a few times now to drop the docs for macports, just never actually done it. Afaik nothing’s changed here, so I’d prefer to just remove the references entirely. @gavinandresen: that still what you would prefer?

   ACK on dropping mention of MacPorts, brew seems to have won the package-manager-on-OSX war.
